1Password ‘Your password is required every 2 weeks’ feature criticized by many, company considering alternative options

1Password

1Password is a password management service that provides a place for users to store various passwords and other sensitive information in a virtual vault.

However, the ‘Your password is required every 2 weeks’ security requirement is something that 1Password users find incredibly frustrating.

As you might have guessed already, this requirement forces the users to fill in their master password after every 2 weeks to access the service.

Users find it annoying and ironical to have to enter password on a tool specifically designed to avoid the same practice. According to some, it ruins the whole purpose of having a password manager.

Wife must enter the master password each time she needs to log into any website. 1password does not require it from me.
I am running Windows 10. She is running Windows 11. We are running the latest 1password version as of June 2022.

The Master Password requirement appears to be affecting users irrespective of the devices they are using. Even more stranger is that the requirement appears for those with fingerprint biometric verification configured as well.

That’s precisely why many 1Password users are now requesting that the ‘Your password is required every 2 weeks’ requirement should be removed or at least made an option.

Please drop the ‘Your password is required every 2 weeks’ requirement or make it an option. As I’m already using the biometric, this is a security overkill annoyance and meanwhile, the rest of the world is moving to passwordless authentication.

And after repeated complaints from discontented users, a member of the 1Password team took note of the reports and they are discussing the matter to weigh their options.
